Our Favorite Bike Trails
Paved Trails (Great for adults and children)
Provo Canyon trail – start at the parking lot at 800 North and the mouth of Provo Canyon by the Will’s Canyon Stop – Chevron convenience store at 1565 E 800 N, Orem, UT 84097. Turn left to take the Provo canyon trail. Turn right to take the trail down towards Provo.
Utah Lake trail – start at the parking lot on the west side of Geneva road and 350 North in Provo. Go right to take the trail by the Provo river to Utah lake. Turn left to take the trail over to University Parkway in Provo. This is a great trail with lot’s of shade along the way.
Murdock Trail – go to 800 East and Technology Avenue (1/2 block south of 1600 North) in Orem. Take the trail right up to American Fork/Lehi. There are many bathrooms and drinking fountains along the way.
Spanish Fork trail – start at the new Spanish Fork sports complex, by heading south on Spanish Fork Main Street and turning right on the road just after the Wendy’s. The sports complex is just a couple blocks away on the south side. Park in the sports complex parking lot and ride your bikes to the south side of the complex to find the trail. Turn left (east) to take the take the trail along the river and out through farming fields to the mouth of Spanish Fork canyon. Take a lunch and eat at the park near mouth of Spanish Fork canyon and return back for an enjoyable ride and time with family or friends.
Park City trail – start at the parking lot next to the Olympic rings just where the primary road to Park City comes to a T-Intersection with the road that goes up to the Park City ski resorts. Follow the trail east towards Kimball Junction. This is a beautiful ride along a small creek and don’t forget to stop at the old White barn and farm homestead along the way. Bring a picnic lunch to stop and eat whenever you hungry and tired.
Dirt Trails
Utah County Bench Trail – Go to 800 East and Cascade drive in Orem (near cemetery and 1600 North). Take Cascade drive east up the mountain to 1a parking lot by the trail. Take the trail either North or South. This trail is a bit challenging for me, but will be no problem for most experienced and younger mountain biker’s.
Big Springs Park up Provo Canyon – Take 800 North in Orem east up Provo canyon. Turn right a Vivian Park on the right side about 5 miles up the canyon. Take the road past Vivian park about 3 more miles until you come to Big Springs Day Picnic area. Park in the parking lot at the top of the picnic area. Take the trail at the end of parking lot over a little bridge. This is trail a favorite for many local mountain bike riders. It’s a constant slow up-hill grind that is tiring for a old guy like me. I have to stop and walk from time to time, but I really enjoy the ride back down hill when I am done. Typically, I ride my bike and my family walks up the trail.
Park City Trails – I am told there are many of the best mountain biking trails in the Park City area. I have only ridden on one. In the middle of the Park City paved trail, I have listed above, is a trail that heads up the mountain. It was a very enjoyable and challenging ride for my son-in-law and I couple of years ago. I will try to list better directions to the trails in Park City.
Slick Rock and Other Trails around Moab, UT – The Slick Rock trail in Moab Utah is one of the most famous mountain bikes places in the world. It’s like someone poured bumpy cement over a mountain and then enterprising people painted a dashed white trail line for bikers to ride on. It is called slick rock because of earlier times when horses with steel horse shoes were trying to walk on it. For bikers, it like riding on sand paper and you can climb the steepest grade without your tire slipping. I would recommend this as an experience for all mountain bikers. Bring lot’s of water, your helmet and maybe some knee and elbow pads just in case. Directions: Go to Moab, UT and ask anyone for directions.
